Children often need and benefit from additional support to help them achieve academic goals at different stages in their schooling.  There are many pressures and expectations placed upon them to succeed and perform to a high standard and to the best of their ability.  At Teddington Tutorial Academy, we are there to help.

At 10+ and 11+, independent secondary schools require prospective pupils to sit a range of examinations and attend an interview. These tests vary from school to school and it is up to parents to establish, usually following discussions with their child’s teachers, which schools are appropriate. It is also important to establish which examinations will be sat and when they take place, and not to choose too many secondary schools so that a child is overwhelmed by the whole process.

The examinations are normally between November and February of a Year 5 or Year 6 child’s primary school and in the year they will transfer to secondary school. The examinations are set by the secondary school concerned and the papers set are usually in Mathematics, English, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning although each school has its own unique way of conducting their assessments.  Most schools also place importance on an interview, which may involve reading a passage out loud and the child responding orally to questions on the piece.

Certain secondary schools have an initial test that must be passed to a satisfactory standard before the boy or girl is invited back to sit a second more challenging paper.
This is a serious and taxing period for a young person, who will be facing a selective process for the first time.  It requires rigorous preparation to give each boy and girl the best possible chance of succeeding.

At TTA we provide long term tuition over one or two years to supplement a child’s schooling in preparation for either 10+ or 11+ examinations.  The programme covers all aspects of the papers as well as a component on interview technique and study skills.  Our tutors are knowledgeable, experienced and accomplished in motivating girls and boys and helping them achieve their goals.
